NEW Camera Lens - Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II

It's been awhile since I've been wanting to try a new camera lens.

I have an old Canon EOS Rebel T1i DSLR camera. I KNOW, soooo throwback classic. But to be honest, it's a good camera for what I typically use it for (blog photos, & family vacations). I bought a new lens for it to play arounf more with depth of field. to get that nice blurry background for my photos... so I picked up the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 lens II . I've read some good reviews on it so I decided it was time... Anyway, I still have to play around with it. Review it a bit more and pick up a few tricks and how-to's, but long story short... Here's what's in my bag... using the new lens...

'What's in my everyday bag'
It's fall season now, and it's actually beginning to feel like it here in So-Cal, so I figure I'd crack out the old brown bag. I got this bag several years ago from Macy's, & it's honestly held up! I like the shape and overall slouchy-ness about it, but still looks put together (discretely hiding the shit-ton of stuff I lug around everyday...)

of course, I carry around my good ol' wallet (my favorite wallet since it fits everything, cash, cards, receipts, store cards - all in one place). plus, it just happens to be the same color as my bag... i've had it for years!
I did, however, pick up a new make-up bag, pencil-bag style because it's way smaller and compact, just enough room for what I need to carry around for touch-ups during the day. I found it at Burlington's for about $10. It's by Betsey Johnson, & I thought it had a nice pattern, nice quilted/fabric feel to it, and also has a black&white striped interior pattern, which makes it easier to see your products. MOST importantly, the ZIPPER is smooth as a baby's butt. it even has a cute fuzzy zipper pull.
I carry the usual touch up powder, blush, multi-task brush, lipsticks, etc...
Some of the stuff in the back is kinda hard to see (a little too much depth of field, maybe ;), but I also carry around hand-sanitizer, lotion, lip balm, small calendar, phone charger (which I keep in that little black pouch), a pen, an emergency kit (which is in that transparent bag in the back, which has Altoids, pads, tampons, nail cutter, meds, cough drops, earphones, candy, band-aids, and just a bunch of other random "just-in-case" stuff).

Everything all laid out... looks like a lot of stuff, but it's honestly stuff I use every time I go "out-out," where I'm gonna be gone for more than a few hours. It helps to make me feel comfortable, you know?
Ps. I've been in & out of my blog phases, BUT i do wanna keep updating it with new posts. Especially using the new lens. May not all be about food, but most of it will =)

Happy November!

Dark Chocolate Covered Pretzel Cupcakes

SO, I've been on a bit of a baking kick lately. yea?

I baked some more of these dark chocolate cupcakes, frosted with vanilla cream cheese frosting, topped with dark chocolate ganache & garnished with a dark chocolate-covered pretzel. (*takes breathe*) OMG! that's alot to say about a tiny-bitty cupcake...

Dark Chocolate-Covered Pretzel Cupcakes

Here's what I did:

1. Baked cupcakes.
2. Frosted cupcakes.
3. Ganached cupcakes.
4. Topped it off with some dark chocolate-covered pretzels I already had made.
5. EAT!

If you know me, nothing is better than dark chocolate, & as for cupcakes, this is the type I can eat alot of. I like the looks of colorful & fancy store-bought cupcakes, but these simple ones are the best in taste in my book.

I did leave some of the cuppies exposed (white), just in case I fancied an alternative taste. But, as far as the photo is concerned, the "black & white" contrasting cupcakes make for a more interesting photo.

The chocolate just really pops out at-cha!

These were super easy to make and put together, and they look & taste great =)

To frost the cupcakes, I used an off-set spatula to spread the frosting. Then I let the frosting set in the fridge overnight (or can be done within an hour, as long as the frosting sets). Once the frosting had time to set, I dipped them in the dark chocolate ganache & added the pretzels,

NOTE: If you don't let the frosting set (get stiffer/chill/refrigerate) before you dip it in the ganache, you will lose the frosting in the bowl of ganache bc it will be too soft, and the ganache (which is warm) will soften the frosting more and weigh the frosting down into it,..

other than that,

Have a great week! & Happy VACATION!!!!

Cactus Macaron Cupcakes

Summer-weather just keeps coming sooner&sooner here in So-cal. It's been in the 90's at times already & HOT AS HECK! Not complaining tho, I love SUMMER!

Speaking of desert weather, here's some macaron/cupcake hybrid I made recently, as in... I finished these 10 minutes ago & couldn't wait to actually upload them and post for uuu guys (and for me to reference back to, of course, in the future).

I am really loving the way they look grouped together, as if they were really potted plants.

Makes me want to take a road trip and watch all the cactus along the way basking under the hot summer sun.

I hope this inspires some of you.

Here's what I did:

1. Baked macarons.

2. Painted them to look like cactus.

3, Bakes & Ganached the cupcakes.

4. Used crushed pretzels as "dirt."

5. Stuck the macarons onto the cupcakes using toothpick.

6. Take lots of photos.

(I finally got to use the old canon Rebel T1i for these shots, Old school, I know, I know, but it's the best camera & lens combo for what I need them for).

In case anyone is wondering if these actually taste good, YES YES YES!
